The fort city of Gwalior has a great tourism potential and efforts were on to develop it as a "visitors' paradise", Congress MP and scion of Royal family of Gwalior Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Sunday.

"I want to showcase the city as a gateway to Madhya Pradesh," he said on the sidelines of the Gwalior Heritage Festival here.

Crediting his late father and Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia for making the city as an "important destination on Indian Railway map", he said, "We are also trying to give Gwalior a better air connectivity. Air Deccan has already started its services, we are in talk with other airlines too".

With better road, air and rail connectivity, the city has a great potential to attract tourists, he said and felt that more efforts are needed to develop Gwalior as a major tourist destination.

"It will take good 15-20 years to fully develop Gwalior as a visitors' paradise," he said.

Crediting his family's legacy for "paving his way into politics", the young Congress leader said politics has always been a part of him.

"Politics is not new for me. It is in my heart and soul. I have seen my father extending a helping hand to the people of Gwalior. I want to carry forward the legacy," he said.
