In reply to a question by Jyotiraditya Scindia in Lok Sabha Minister of State for External Affairs, E. Ahamed stated that India has put forward the idea of a broader Asian Economic Community comprising India, ASEAN, Japan, China and Republic of Korea.

According to a press release, some studies and seminars by leading think tanks and academic organizations of these countries on closer economic integration in Asia have already been undertaken.
